I usually paint in the morning around 5am. This was done during the day and so there was all this natural light filtering into the room. It made the objects have a floating green from time to time. Its for sale if you want it. Or on Redbubble if you want a print. Actually it wont be on there for a couple of days but it will be on there eventually.

You know I have to say that I love painting. It's beyond pure enjoyment. When I paint everything just seems to go away. Its just me the object(s) and our interaction at that specific time filtered through whatever mood I'm in. Its different then when I'm doing illustration. a little red and a little glare

these radishes look much better in rl (real life) I just finished them and there was some crazy glare going on. The same for the peppers. Both of these guys are 8x10, a little bigger than usual for daily paintings but I ran out of smaller canvases. The new blogger interface is interesting.... ok. I wanted to do all these portraits, but I ran out of money for models. I have to go back to fruit for a little while, sell a painting or two then I'll be able to afford more models. Painting people is my meth. I crave it, I wish I could it 24/7. It's good to write these silly thoughts.

I've been working on some still lifes in the morning. It's the only time right now when Is quiet enough to do some uninterrupted work. I like waking up early and painting, it sets the day up nicely. I wanted to create a series of paintings about oranges. I do not know why, I just did. I did about 10 or so, out of which I only liked these four. I'm gonna try another round with a diff pov.

I took a diff approach on this one. I do not usually start with a drawing. this painting took twice as long because, thats right, I drew for as long as I painted.

I almost forgot how this whole posting thing works. I haven't posted in a about a month. It seems that I got blocked. sometimes it takes a while to get unblocked. I have to thank my unblocking to Billiam and to my grandmother. They both asked me if I had painted anything recently. I said no and tried to come with some sort of excuse but none came to mind. I do have one reason/excuse. I'm having a show in March and I've been sorting through stuff and getting ready for it. although now that I think about it that only took 2 hours. so ok I'm painting again. no excuses. I was just lazy.

lots of things. one of them being that I will be having a show in March of 09!!! I'm extremly excited. thats the good news. the bad news is that I will not be putting stuff up on ebay for a while. I't was beginning to be a semi regular thing. now its just going to be a once in a while thing. Ok. Does any one remember Bob Ross? I used to watch him all the time when I was little. I always liked his approach, soft spoken, kind to animals. He seemed like a really nice guy. One Hundred! I can't belive this is my 100th post. I'm not sure if it's my 100th painting but pretty close. Its been about a year and a half since I started posting and its been fantastic. This is from Liberty View Farms in Highland NY. A great place to paint and just to take in nature. I will be doing a workshop there probably towards the end of August. both of these paintings have been done on treated paper. I'ts a bit of an experiment. The Farm was seized with rabbit skin glue and the pepper was done on paper treated with acrylic medium. I like the rabbit skin glue better. I need to try it out a couple of more times in order to make a decision about it. It was fun trying out a diff technique, it brings me back to my college days when I would make my own paint and my own walnut ink. ahh... good times. Oh. The farm painting is now Billiam's but the bottom one is still up for grabs. 65.oo

Yes, I was able to wake up early yesterday and paint. I'm very proud of my self and I really like the way the painting came out. It was pretty dark and I wasn't able to see much but sometimes painting is not about what you put down but about what you leave out. Anyway here it is

This was done on a piece of copper that I had primed about a decade ago. It has warmth to it that is hard to describe, it also makes the painting super shiny, thus the glare. You know, sometimes is easier to paint after a couple of weeks of R&R.

Aha! You know, its difficult to come up with a different set everynight. I think I'm going to have to start to look for more bowls and still life material. well definatly need more fabric. This is an 8by10 on board. Unframed 175. Add the frame at the bottom for a total of 225.00 US Dollars! (or 142 to Euros). I have also linked one of my proffesors from SVA, Max Ginsburg, He is an incredible painter and all around great guy. I'm saving up to buy one of his illustrations.

I went to my parents today. My mother has managed to accumulate everything a stilllife painter would ever want. there is stuff everywhere. Every little corner of the house has a shelf with a pot and some sort of ceramic doll/angel/egg/horse/insert your own here. She also has every painting I have ever done. Yes, it has been way too long since my last post. Why? Well plainly put.... I was lazy. I think that humans are inherently lazy. That's what I'm going to blame it on. I made this painting a bit after holloween. I just never got the chance to upload it. I've been trying a new kind of lighting, but I don't think I like it.

This one I did last night. I like the red cup but the lighting still bugging me. As to selling the paintings. Well yes, they are all for sale. all the 6x8's are 100.00 bucks and the 9 by 12's are 175.00. You will need to contact me in order to purchase them. The ebay store didn't work out.

I will be going camping on Sat. and school starts on the fourth, so I probably won't be able to paint for about a week or so. Hopefully I will not be too tired and I can just keep going. This is a drawing I did a while back. I was cleaning up my website and did not have the time to paint tonight. I am happy to say that I will be teaching a painting class for Empire College this fall! I'm really excited about it.

On a whole different issue. When I was younger I would catch Jeopardy and would think "Wow, what a great amount of subjects to learn about, I need to know that much!" The amazing human mind at work. Today, I happened to flip the channels and there was a different show about knowledge DO YOU KNOW AS MUCH AS A FIFTH GRADER! that's the name of the show! and yes people win by answering these questions! What Happened? why is it ok now only to know as much as fifth grader? Can we at least bring it up to 12th grade! Blah...

This delicious watermelon and tomatoes are from taliaferos farm here in New Paltz. I should have finished this painting yesterday but I ended up watching a weird and depressing Brazilian movie called "Mango Yellow" I couldn't really do much after that. Today I also caught a mole in my house. I'm a little freaked out. I have a cat but apparently he is useless. If anyone has any suggestions as to how to get rid of pests without having to call an exterminator let me know.

I keep eating all my still lifes. One of my proffessors once told me "when ever you feel the urge to eat (while painting) drink a glass of water instead". By the end of the painting I'm starving so I figured there is no way I can eat plain lemons.

Mid Hudson Bridge View 1 and 2

A couple of paintings from under the bridge in Poughkeepsie NY. It's a great spot for painting. One can do so much with the subject matter.
this one I did in two sittings mostly due to the light change. Its around 6 by 7 inches.

This one was done all in one sitting. The blue on the left side of the painting should be slightly darker, but once again my canon plays tricks on me. I had a great time with both pieces. The piece is about 8 by 24 inches. I can't wait till the fall and maybe just maybe if I feel adventurous enough I'll try one in February!!!

Gosh darn it glare

This is a decent painting. I do not love it. but I do not hate it either. I do however still hate my camera. I hate the glare and the way that it just takes pictures in general. I am exhausted today. I went down to NJ today and the drive kills me. I feel like the brushstrokes are not as truthful as they could have been. There is of course always tomorrow.

Tomato Bowl

It's funny. Sometimes you know something for so long that you forget it. All it takes is for someone to mention it to you and then there it is. Aha! yes of course, I totally forgot! anyway the tomatoes looked so good while I was painting them that I had to stop and eat one. It was delicious and that's what I had forgotten, how tasty vegetables and fruits really are. I don't know how I forgot.

I think next week I'm going to open up one of those ebay stores that everyone seems to have and I'll put up all the paintings that I have.

I had to use the Canon again. It kills me because I love the way this painting came out. I don't say that very often about my work so you have to believe me when I say that I love my painting. I think is ok to love your own work. I hate my camera. It laughs at me. I keep messing around with the controls so I can teach it to see what I see and it seems to understand. It blinks ok and happy green light appears but when I upload the pic it looks nothing like reality. Well I'm not going to get into real vs non-real right now. First of, I hate this digital camera. I don't know where my SONY camera is hiding. The color and value range are so much better than this Canon camera that I'm using right now. I'm sure my oldest son took it and is now making lego movies with it. I have also decided not to put these paintings on ebay anymore. Not for a little while anyway. Don't get me wrong, they are all still for sale, but now if someone wants the painting they are just going to have to contact me. anyway here it is.

Old Bridge

This is an old bridge over the Hudson River, its very close to the Mid-Hudson bridge. It's really cool looking. If you are ever in Poughkeepsie, NY on a sunny day you have to stop at this place. Just go down Main st. till you hit the end. I can't wait till the fall to paint this again. All those colors are going to be a challenge.

I had several titles for this painting "a stranger among us", "We are all friends here", "four is a crowd" and many many more. I asked my self why I needed such a title. Is it because I'm trying to make this painting in more then what it actually is? sure I planned it, and sure I thought about the composition, color, objects but I just wanted to paint something that was pleasing. I found the way the light fell across the objects intriguing. I love the color contrast and I think I like painting oranges. Anywho... I went to NJ two days ago and I just finally recovered. I don't like to drive as much as I used to.

I am going to try something new. I'm not sure how its going to work out but I know that it will be a learning experience. I'm going to use this painting as reference for a larger painting. Its a little late to start today so I' will (hopefully) get going tomorrow. We will see.

I finished this on Sunday. It's SUNY at New Paltz from Hasbrouck Park. It was so much fun to paint but then the light changed so much during the second sitting that I just couldn't do much more. I'm going to list it on Ebay later on tonight. My girls will be waking up soon and we need to go shopping.

Plums And Purple Pepper

This is the weirdest looking pepper I've ever seen. It's a purple pepper! This painting looks a lot better in RL (real life :)) I might just paint the pepper all by itself tomorrow. The cup lost so much depth in the digital photo. oh well. If anyone is interested in this one just drop me a line. I dont have time to list it.
